Gettysburg Pike Road Closure

Notice: Future Road Closure of Gettysburg Pike

Due to replacement of sanitary sewer pipe it will be necessary to close a portion of Gettysburg Pike beginning at 7:00 AM on Monday, April 28 until Friday, May 2 or until work is complete. The road closure will occur 24 hours a day and will close the portion of Gettysburg Pike from the Gettysburg Pike/English Drive intersection up to, but not including, the entrance of the new Planet Fitness building. Access to English Drive and ALL businesses along Gettysburg Pike will remain open during the road closure. Detour signs will be posted during the road closure, please see detour plan shown below for more information.

Text Amendment to Zoning Ordinance

The Board of Commissioners received a request from Mountaineer Properties, LLC, for a text amendment to the Zoning Ordinance to add Semi-Trailer Parking Lot as a permitted use in the Industrial District and to amend the buffering requirements within the Industrial Zone. The topic will be discussed at the next Planning Commissioner meeting on Monday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. Public attendance and comments are encouraged.

2014 Brush and Leaf Pickup

Brush Pickup-
Upper Allen will collect brush from residential properties in the early spring, and the late summer.  The Township has revised it's collection method, and produced a flyer to assist residents in understanding the new schedule.  The flyer for the 2014 Brush Pickup Schedule  can be viewed here (pdf)

Leaf and Wood chips-
Leaf compost and wood chips will be delivered on March 31, 2014 and April 1, 2014 Weather permitting.

After that, if we get ten or more new orders we will make another delivery. You can place an order by calling the Township Office At (717) 766-0756

Residents who want to pick up leaf compost or wood chips can do so at the back side of the Public Works garage at the Township building.

Turnpike Bridge Rehabilitations

Three bridges in Upper Allen Township, which are owned by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), will be undergoing rehabilitation this spring.

The Williams Grove Road, South York Street and South Market Street bridges over the Turnpike will undergo deck repairs, paving and painting.
This work will be done while maintaining one open lane of traffic on the bridges, using standard short-term traffic control procedures.  Both lanes of traffic across the bridge will be open during all non-working hours.

Burn Permits

Burn permit applications will now require a 72 hour notice, so they can be processed by the Upper Allen Fire Department.
Please consider this timeline before you make any plans.

Residential / Recreational firepits and fireplaces do not require a burn permit.
However, residents must abide by the burn ban notice.

The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay is pleased to launch an online resource dedicated to helping homeowners and businesses take charge of stormwater runoff. The new website guides citizens to steps they can take to eliminate runoff and potential pollution from their property and improve their local stream and the Chesapeake Bay. The easy to use information is targeted to homeowners and includes helpful hints, technical specifications, illustrations, videos and other valuable resources.
